For years my friend, Dee, has been talking about her rice dressing and how she adds a can of “mushroom steak sauce” to it.
Mushroom steak sauce? What is this stuff?
It comes in a small can. It looks like this.
I must tell you, it makes for a deliciously moist rice dressing.
Dee told me how she makes her rice dressing, and I tried to make it as close to hers as possible (in a smaller batch).
Here’s what I did, you should give it a try!!!
In a large Magnalite, brown 1 lb Jimmy Dean (regular). Add onion, garlic, celery, green onion, green bell pepper. Cook for 20 minutes or so, you will want the veggies very soft.
Add a container of Savoie’s Dressing Mix (found in the frozen aisle, I didn’t have time to thaw it so I defrosted & cooked it all in the pot)
Let cook for another 20-30 minutes until fully defrosted and cooked completely.
Add the can of mushroom steak sauce. Let simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
Stir in cooked rice.
Season to taste.
Cajun Rice Dressing.
1 lb Jimmy Dean (regular)
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 container Savoie’s Dressing Mix
1 can Mushroom Steak Sauce
2 cups raw rice, cooked in a separate pot or rice cooker
salt and pepper to taste
In a large Magnalite over medium heat, brown Jimmy Dean in a little olive oil until fully cooked. Add veggies and cook for about 20 minutes or so until very soft.
Add the dressing mix to the pot. Cook for an additional 20-30 minutes until defrosted and cooked down.
Pour in the can of mushroom sauce and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes.
Spoon in the cooked rice, stirring to combine. Season to taste.
If you like more spice you can add a little cayenne.
Top with more chopped green onion as a garnish.
